Position Overview

The Production/Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations across all production departments—Planning, Prepress, Print, Bindery, Mail and Shipping. This leader’s role is to manage the production process and lead the organization to ensure our clients’ quality and delivery expectations are met. Critical to achieving this is leading personnel, equipment, workflow optimization, and client satisfaction. The role is critical in reinforcing PI’s culture, improving efficiencies, developing staff capabilities and safeguarding delivery excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Culture

  • Reinforce PI’s culture, values and process-driven approach through daily actions and leadership.
  • Support associate skill development via training, coaching and performance evaluations.
  • Participate in leadership training and promote PI’s process improvement approach as defined in the Innovation Playbook.
  • Create growth plans for production associates and floor leaders.
  • Champion and implement company policies and continuous improvement initiatives.

Production and Operations Oversight

  • Schedule and prioritize jobs to ensure on-time delivery and the client’s quality expectations are met.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Sales to address job requirements, scheduling and address any conflicts.
  • Review production outcomes daily, adjusting schedules and plans as needed.
  • Track internal and outsourced jobs to ensure seamless coordination and delivery.
  • Review and audit accuracy and clarity of job specification details, directing updates as needed. Manage all modifications to specs through final resolution and documentation.

Client and Team Collaboration

  • Interface with internal teams to address issues and ensure timely resolutions.
  • Drive communication between departments to align production schedules with delivery plans.
  • Resolve scheduling or quality issues in a proactive, client-focused manner.
  • Be the final authority for job quality and delivery timing.

Equipment, Maintenance and Safety

  • Ensure safety protocols are followed across all production areas.
  • Oversee machine maintenance and its execution to align with manufacturers’ guidelines and ensure maintenance logs are up to date.
  • Coordinate with service and repair personnel through PI’s Facility Manager.
  • Assess the condition of production equipment; recommend repair, replacement or improvements.

Logistics and Delivery Coordination

  • Schedule daily deliveries and provide oversight of delivery planning with the Delivery Administrator.
  • Analyze delivery plans based on production status and job size/location.
  • Coordinate with external vendors to maintain service standards and delivery timelines.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; advanced training in production/operations preferred.
  • Experience with Canon and Bell & Howell equipment.
  • Proven expertise in direct mailing and variable data print operations.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time-management capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of job costing, delivery logistics and staff scheduling.

Schedule

  • Full-time position
  • 8 to 10-hour shifts, day shift

Education

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Work Location

  • In-person at our facility in Troy, Michigan

Working Conditions

  • Standing for prolonged periods.
  • Occasional extended and weekend hours.
  • Dynamic and fast-paced environment with fluctuating priorities.
  • Moderate to loud noise levels.

Salary

  • $72,000 – $90,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications
